Privacy lovers of Brisbane, we're holding a privacy meetup event with speakers from Mozilla and the EFA.
Hi r/bris I’m the organiser of the brisSafety meetup, we’re a group of digital privacy lovers who run public workshops and events. I posted about a few crypto-parties here last year. This time we’ve got an awesome general interest event. Rather than harping on about VPNs and encryption, we’re taking a step back and ask why does it even matter. What’s the importance of privacy in todays world, why should you care if you have “Nothing to hide”. We have two speakers: Daemon Singer is deeply involved in two important groups in the Australian privacy debate, the Queensland Council of Civil Liberties, and Electronic Frontiers Australia. He now acts as the treasurer for both. He is speaking on Privacy as a civil liberties issue. our second speaker is Kade Moreton. Kade is the regional coordinator of the Mozilla foundation. The Mozilla foundations mission is to keep the internet a free
Is anyone going to the dump in the near future? Northside
I have two old 2-seater couches that I’ve been using as outdoor chill out seats. I need them gone because the real estate thinks they look tacky and want the place to look “nice”. I don’t have a car so I was wondering if anyone could please be kind enough to pick them up on their way to the tip? submitted by /u/Historic_Pantaloons [link] [comments]
Need access to mangroves
I need to collect some substrate samples of different mangrove species. I was going to go to Nudgee Beach however there’s only one bus route which is really inconvenient for me (I’m in Chermside). I was thinking of going up to Redcliffe – Nathan Road Wetlands or near the start of the Kedron Brook? The other option are the mangroves in the city. Any advice is appreciated, thanks submitted by /u/retardjew [link] [comments]

What are your plans for the weekend?
Hi Brisbane. What are people doing this weekend? I am struggling because there are so many things that I want to do that it overwhelms me. Tonight I am going to cook a risotto for the first time without using a rice cooker and watch No Country For Old Men on SBS. I love the movie and author 😉 Tomorrow I don’t know because I would like to go up Mt Beerwah but I also wouldn’t mind driving to Elanda and hiking to Fig Tree Point and Camping overnight to take some photos but it is supposed to rain on Sunday so the hike out wouldn’t be nice. Maybe drive up to Urangan and car camp overnight at Colonial Village? and drive back after taking some photos and maybe having a fish. I haven’t had a fish in 18 months and I haven’t been up that way in 35 years.
Burger Project opened at South Bank today.
There’s a lot of hype about it online, but truth be told it was rather mediocre. The place was packed as you’d expect on its first evening of trading and Neil Perry was there himself. I had the bacon project burger which is basically a bacon and cheese albeit they give you a few extra slices of bacon. Beef was good and juicy but other than that unremarkable. I’d stick with Miss Kay’s, Ben’s Burgers or Chur Burger if I were you. Of course the location at South Bank station makes it very convenient but other than that it doesn’t stand out from its competitors. And that concludes my really rubbish review of the place that I’ve just typed up in 5 minutes on the train. submitted by /u/magpie1862 [link] [comments]
