There are now serious questions about how a known criminal in south-east Queensland managed to get hold of powerful weapons and kill a police officer. The gunman Rick Maddison also died yesterday, just west of Brisbane, after a siege and shootout with police. It’s still unclear how Maddison got his high-powered firearms, but experts say it shows a lack of vigilance and understanding around criminals’ access to weapons.
