People are back at work and it means lots of people driving their cars into the city. Every single day I note the large amount of cars that block intersections aka “blocking the box”. The intersection of Leichhardt street and Little Edward and also (and more annoyingly) Turbot and Edward Streets are two I come across regularly. People usually turning into Edward from these cross streets end up not making it and sitting in the middle of the intersection. The lights change, and no one can move. Enraging! I note that entering a blocked intersection has a max penalty of 20 units (see Section 128 of the Transport Operations legislation). If a penalty unit value is still $121.90, QPS could be rolling in the dough if they had an officer sitting at these two intersections during morning peak hour.
