Today I learned that there are three different types of marriage certificates issued in Queensland: Standard Certificates Ceremonial Certificates Commemorative Certificate Packages (includes a Standard Certificate). Only Standard Certificates can now be used for official purposes. They are not automatically given when you register your marriage – you have to purchase them. Generally, when you get married in a religious ceremony, all you receive is a ceremonial certificate – this CANNOT be used to prove that you got married.
