As the bus rounded the corner, I was embarrassingly excited. Will the driver open the doors and wave me on? Will there be a thoughtfully penned sticky note on the card reader – “FREE RIDEZ”? Perhaps a shopping bag lovingly draped over it? The doors open. I get a cheerful smile from the driver, but that’s about it. No free ride for me.
