A Third Culture Kid is “someone who, as a child, has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture.” Spending the formative years of ones life immersed in other cultures really defines our identity to a unique extent. However we can face challenges in adult life with our cultural identities and the sense of belonging. For example I’ve now lived in my ‘home’ country of Australia for the past 6 years yet still feel a stranger, and I suspect I always will. My passport says Australian but my accent doesn’t always agree. If there’s any others with this experience living in Bris, I would really love to get in touch and chat. submitted by /u/Krillmano [link] [comments]
