What's your favourite novel based in our Sunshine State?
I’ve really jumped back into reading as winter tries its best to make its way north again. I really enjoy reading books set in places I have been, especially locations I have recently travelled or been on holiday to. So what I’m asking is – do you know a good book that is set around Brisbane or Queensland that really pushes local culture, references, popular areas/streets/malls? submitted by /u/SkatingGuitarist [link] [comments]

Moorooka 'Mile' losing its magic?
I’m in the market for a new or newish car so thought I’d hit the Mooroka Magic mile this weekend, but was bitterly disappointed. I can’t believe how many yards are now vacant. Has the car industry hit the skids or have they all packed up and moved to Springwood or some other precinct? submitted by /u/Cafescrambler [link] [comments]
Has anybody else had the "planned NBN installation type" change?
On the nbnco website here, where you can view what your house is getting, my house has been changed three times, from FTTN, to FTTP, and now to H F Fucking C, which I believe is the worst by a significant margin, and if I am correct, FTTP is the best? Anybody else had this happened to them? Im absolutely livid, you pay a ridiculous amount for a capped network (Telstra is all we can get from our place) with 25 down and 0.6 upload at off peak times, we get told that they’re finally going to do something about it, and now they go and change it to Mr Fucking Abbott’s Fraudband. The only other difference is that it says our installation is “in progress”, but I have no clue if that has anything to do with our dropouts or just Telstra being Telstra. tl;dr NBN planned installation type
Students: How difficult is it for you to live off Centrelink?
Hi r/Brisbane! I’m a third year student, and I’ve been living off youth allowance and rent assistance for the past three years (the max $ possible). I just don’t find it that difficult to completely live off Centrelink. I grew up in a large family, and we were quite poor. The move to Brisbane was difficult financially, but after setting up, I found myself doing alright. I’d love some different views on this. As a student, what is your situation? How hard is it for you to get by? Any tips for struggling students? submitted by /u/corianderftw [link] [comments]
