Got two weeks to find a new place to live.

Just got back from holiday in Palm Cove and everything here has gone to shit. Just as I was at Cairns Airport I got a text from my flatmate saying that I had to vacate the current place I’m in by the end of this month. This could not have come at a worse time for me. Starting a new job on Monday so I don’t have time to go looking at properties. I’ve tried flatmates.com.au, I’ve messaged about six people regarding their listings and got no replies from them (just that they’ve read my message and nothing else). All I get on that website is people spamming me with their advertisements in areas I don’t really want to live in and in awful quality accommodation. I managed to arrange to look at a place today and god almighty it was horrible. I can’t understand how in a first world

D&D group looking for extra players in the Valley

Heyhey, so, my group just concluded a short adventure and we are about to start a new one – new characters, new place, new people, new trouble. However the party would benefit a lot from 1-2 extra players, so if you have been looking for a place to join for more critical failures, chips, and laughs, write a line here. Game will start in about a week, but we will take a Christmas break and be back in mid-january due to various people’s holidays. submitted by /u/Ediwir [link] [comments]

What to do for my friend who is being underpaid as a foreign student.

My friend is being illegally underpaid in a fast food position. It’s easy to calculate the award wage, and the absolute minimum wage for a level 1 fast food employee at 19 years old is $15.55 per hour. She gets $11 per hour. Is there anything that can even be done in this situation that actually benefits her in the long run? submitted by /u/CutFeet [link] [comments]

Need advice on how to get out of a ‘scam‘

Hi everyone, this is what happened to my distant cousins from overseas. My relatives had asked for us to look after them during their stay (I have been here for 7yrs+). So they are very ‘society naive‘ and had come for a working holiday in Australia mid this year. This has been their first time ever living away from home, the biggest adventure lol. Their English is not good at all and this is probably what drove them to their falling this time. Recently they have moved back to southern brisbane and had looked for a house to live in. For some god forbidden reason (probably their lack of English ability), they had looked at some private ad and rented a 2room 1bath for $480/week in Sunnybank Hill from a Chinese owner. No agent involved, they signed a private contract and paid a 4 week bond! Now I live very

Weekly fireworks in Herston

Anyone know anything about these? I’ve been able to see fireworks about once a week for a few weeks now, always around the same place (as far as I can tell from my balcony) and around the same time. They look to be near the hospital or QUT area. I couldn’t find anything about them in a quick google search, other than a government warning page that listed the location vaguely as “Herston”. They’re not bothering me, if anything I was wanting to go check them out a bit closer. submitted by /u/FuckYouBeth [link] [comments]

To people in the electrical, plumbing and air conditioning/refrigeration industry, what is your job like and would you recommend it?

I’m 19 and halfway through my business course majoring in supply chain management but I am thinking about at changing to a career that is highly demanded. At the moment, I’m not too sure what specific trade I want to do but I just like to hear what you guys think about the industry you work in. submitted by /u/jerryboree [link] [comments]

Red flags from agent when renting?

Throwaway because… who are we kidding, all my accounts are throwaway on a long enough timeline… Anyway. Have a rental agreement ready to go on a place we really like. The big downside is that it’s on a major road, and reversing a trailer into the carport will likely involve traffic disruption and isn’t particularly safe IMO. So we’ve asked for a gate to be added on the side (corner block). Negotiations are neither here nor there, as it will have to happen regardless of who pays for it. Owner has come back with “sure, but you’re paying and it has to be done to (list of conditions – basically pay someone to do it).” Quotes for the work seem to be around the $1k mark, affordable, but why am I paying to improve someone’s property? My original idea of making a temporary gate and restoring the fence when we
