What can I do if Aus Post looses my package?

Here’s the situation: I ordered a car part from eBay from a reputable company in the UK I’ve used before and it was posted. A few days after it was meant to arrive I checked the tracking number and it says it was delivered. I called Aus Post who said it had been delivered on the due date and placed in my mail box. Only I know the item would’ve been too big to fit in my mail box and there was no pick up card or other sign that anything has been delivered. Furthermore, my girlfriend was at home that day and never encountered a delivery person. Aus Post’s response was to tell me to get in touch with the seller, which I did, who just echoed what Aus Post said: according to the tracking number it’s been delivered. Sending rental application papers and personal documents via email?

I’m moving out for the first time and I’ve found a share house. The person who is moving out has sent me rental application forms for me to fill out (which involves proof of income, identity etc). And she told me I could email them back to her with attachments or hand them in (in person) to the real estate agent. I live on the Gold Coast at the moment and feel it would be convenient to send her the forms back via email. But I’m also thinking that it could be a bit dodgy with her having an electronic version of all my documents.
