My fiancé (30M) and I (25F) are moving to Brisbane in about a week. We are on a 1 year working holiday visa from the U.S. and we are having some difficulty finding a place to live. We will both be working full time and are looking to spend about $300 a week or less for a furnished flat. We would love to have flatmates or make some new friends at the same time, but anything works. We are both friendly, very tidy, non smokers. My fiancé is a gaming nerd and I enjoy yoga, a few drinks at the pub with some mates, etc. I have been using gumtree, but it seems that as soon as I inquire to a flat it becomes ‘unavailable’. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I don’t currently have an AU phone number so I’m worried that is scaring people away from even responding.
